Kenian Fine Rattan launched in 2000 by founder & President, Clell Smith, with the simple goal to make beautiful, timeless, and relaxed rattan furniture to be enjoyed for generations, bringing joy to your home. Family owned, Clell’s children were the inspiration for the company name, an acronym that incorporates both names, Kendall & Ian, thus Kenian.
With a love for British Asian Antiques, Clell was inspired to create the tortoise collection which started with the rattan folding chair, Kenians very first product. From there, his love for rattan grew and so did the line!
Materials That Last
All Kenian products are made from renewable, natural, rattan and bamboo materials. An eco-friendly choice that doubles as durable and long lasting. Aiming to use every part of the rattan, from the outer skin to the inner core, to avoid waste when possible, Kenian products are designed for comfort and mindfully crafted to last.
About Our
Name And OriginThrough purchasing Kenian products, you are supporting local and international vendors. The sourcing of rattan provides jobs for the areas of the world where the material is commonly grown, preserving craft traditions to the region. Kenian ensures their vendors are following fair and safe labor practices. All their manufacturers are family-owned businesses as well, which is something Kenian as a family-owned business ourselves value. There really is something special about it. All our painting is done in the US. Paint to order pieces are hand painted in a second-generation shop in North Carolina.
OUR CAUSE
Born with Down Syndrome, Ian is a constant inspiration to us and everyone lucky enough to make his acquaintance. An avid sports lover and player of basketball, Ian inspires us to contribute a portion of Kenian’s profits to the Special Olympics Virginia Beach. The organization advances physical, personal and community opportunities for thousands of people with disabilities.
